Sustainable Experiences

This section showcases good practices implemented by tourism operators, businesses, associations and public authorities that contribute to the sustainable development of the Treviso-Ostiglia Greenway and the surrounding areas.

Tree Planting Project along the Treviso-Ostiglia Greenway

This initiative is part of the wider WOWnature programme and involves the planting of new trees along the Treviso-Ostiglia Greenway. The project is supported by Alì Supermarkets and coordinated by the Province of Padua.
The intervention consists of creating linear woodland belts alongside the Greenway by planting native tree and shrub species selected according to the ecological and soil characteristics of the area, complementing the existing vegetation. The project aims to enhance the landscape and environmental quality of the route, strengthen ecological connectivity, improve the rural landscape and provide valuable ecosystem services such as natural shading, carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation.

  • Municipalities involved: Camposampiero, Santa Giustina in Colle, Campodoro and Piazzola sul Brenta
  • Number of trees planted: 1,770
  • Species: (to be completed)
PESBioSile: Project Results Presented in Quinto di Treviso

PESBioSile is a project promoted by the Sile River Regional Nature Park to protect and enhance river biodiversity. Developed between 2024 and 2025, the project was supported by the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC) and the National Research Council (CNR), in collaboration with Federparchi and the technical partners Aquaprogramm, Bioprogramm and Etifor.

Scientific monitoring activities provided a comprehensive assessment of the ecological status of the Sile River, highlighting good natural self-purification capacity, identifying pressures related to human activities and confirming encouraging signs such as the presence of the marble trout (Salmo marmoratus), a rare species recognised as an indicator of high environmental quality.

The project also assessed river ecosystem functionality, mapped environmental pressures affecting the river basin and developed practical tools to support future conservation activities. Among the main outcomes are a catalogue of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) and the first steps towards testing a Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) mechanism, based on a memorandum of understanding between the Sile River Regional Nature Park and the Consortium for the Protection of Treviso PGI Red Radicchio and Castelfranco PGI Variegated Radicchio.

LIFE Svolta Blu Project

LIFE Svolta Blu, co-funded by the European Union's LIFE Programme, addresses increasing water scarcity caused by climate change and the intensive use of natural resources. The project promotes responsible water management through an innovative voluntary Blue Credits system, encouraging citizens, businesses and public authorities to reduce water consumption and invest in water conservation measures.

Sustainable actions generate certified Blue Credits that can be retained or exchanged to offset water consumption. The initiative promotes a shared responsibility approach to water resource management, helping to ensure water availability for future generations. How does it work?

The Blue Credits system introduces an innovative local mechanism that allows participants to:

  • reward individuals, businesses and organisations that reduce water consumption or invest in water efficiency and conservation measures;
  • generate certified Blue Credits through verified environmental actions;
  • enable organisations with higher water consumption to offset part of their water footprint by supporting local water conservation initiatives.
Waste Reduce by Etra

Duration: 1 February 2024 – 31 July 2026

Waste Reduce by Etra is an international project aimed at reducing litter pollution in protected areas and Natura 2000 sites in Italy and Croatia. Through concrete actions and awareness-raising campaigns, the project seeks to improve waste management policies and practices in these environmentally sensitive areas.

The project is based on four main objectives:

  • Measure: monitor the quantity and types of waste found within the target areas.
  • Prevent: raise awareness among residents and visitors about the impacts of littering and promote responsible behaviour.
  • Reduce: implement strategies to decrease waste generation while encouraging recycling and reuse.
  • Mitigate: remove litter and restore areas already affected by waste pollution.

The project is being implemented in the municipalities of the Province of Padua located within the Brenta River Regional Park, contributing to the protection and enhancement of this valuable natural environment.
